Acacia Ridge is a Brisbane suburb that was developed after World War II. It is a residential area with a technology park that houses light industries. The suburb is popular for family living. It has four schools and several open spaces and parks. It is also the home of a large retirement village. Most of the industries and businesses in the suburb cater not only for the local residents but also for the entire city, perhaps the whole country or global. Light industries include City Glass (a manufacturer of specialist glass), Advanced Industrial Products Pty Ltd (a manufacturer of plastic and fiberglass products using the plastic injection moulding technology), QMW Industries Pty Ltd specializing on roll over protective structures (rops) and falling objects protective structures (fops), Pacific National Industries (supplier and manufacturer of packaging materials and janitorial products) and others.
The suburb is named after the Acacia that grew abundantly in the suburb. Acacia is a tree species that is also known as wattles or thorntrees.
Acacia Ridge Main Attractions:
o Iceworld
There are two Iceworld establishments in Brisbane. One is in Acacia Ridge and the other is in Boondal. Iceworld is a popular attraction during warm weather days in Brisbane. It is a place to have fun and escape the heat. For beginners, Iceworld also offers a wide range of ice skating lessons from kids to adults. It also offers advance classes on figure skating. Weekday daytime offers a serene environment and it is suitable for serious skaters. Nighttime and weekends are busier where skating rings will be formed in no time. Iceworld is the home of the local figure skating clubs, ice hockey clubs and tournament events. Those who are serious in skating, Iceworld has qualified coaches that can be hired.
o Acacia Ridge Sports and Leisure Centre
The sports and leisure centre is a large complex. It comprises the Acacia Indoor Sports, Southside Aquatic & Fitness Centre and a Splash Water Park. The Acacia Indoor Sports is a venue for indoor volleyball, cricket and soccer. It is open through out the year. The Southside Aquatic & Fitness Centre is also open all year round (closed on Sundays) with an indoor temperature-regulated 25 meter swimming pool. The centre also offers various swimming lessons. The Splash Water Park is open only during summer (closed on Good Friday, Black Saturday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day). It has five water slides and a shaded kids’ swimming pool.
