Brisbane comes alive at night as the young professionals from the city, some students from the University of Queensland and some occasional trekkers and backpackers gather in Brisbane’s popular night spots and watering holes. Brisbane has a particular place for every mood and every lifestyle. Here’s a sample of what to expect.
The Alibi Room
The Alibi Room is a popular place to unwind and has become a local institutionto have a drink and to look at the assorted items on display; it even has an all day breakfast! Opened by James Straker, it has a Tiki Bar with an amazing indoor waterfall. This place just caters for everyone and doesn't have a dress code so everyone can come in as they are. Its the perfect place if you're just looking for somewhere relaxing or feeling like pancakes! The pop culture references are really quirky and you can see toilet seats transformed into art pieces being hung on the wall. It must be the Aussie sense of humor perhaps or maybe just a reflection of Paddington’s diverse mixture of cultures and sub-cultures. Go have a chat with the chef sporting a mohawk..
Brisbane Jazz Club
For those into the groove and who want to swing it, this is the place for you. They have big bands, acoustic guitars and perhaps you might chance something out of the ordinary like a face off between a saxophone player and a trombone player to the tune of Caravan. This is a place where you just sit, relax, and listen to get you into the mood.
The Dockside Comedy Bar
The Dockside comedy Bar is a place where you can just laugh your heart out. Don’t mistake this place with just any other comedy bar. This place boasts of many past and present greats. Do you know that Eric Bana started here? Eric Bana who? He’s the guy who played the Hector in the movie Troy, with Brad Pitt as Achilles and Orlando Bloom as Paris. I bet you didn’t know that he started as a comedian.
The Alhambra Lounge
The Alhambra lounge's decor screams oppulence and is set out in a Spanish-esque decor. But don’t be fooled by the elegant ambiance because things can get pretty wild. Try to see a flamenco dancer or swing to the beat of the bongo and conga drums to the tune of the Spanish music on show. This is wonderful place for people seeking something extraordinary.
The Empire
This place is for the party animals. It’s RAVE time. Try to feel the beat of that electro music in a dim light setting and with those mobile lights flashing. This is the place to lose yourself and hang out with your friends.
