Kangaroo Point’s Top Attractions:
o Kangaroo Point Cliff
The cliff is man-made, though not intentionally for its current use. The cliff is made up of quarrying left-over from the rhyolite mining done in the site by female convicts. This place is popular as a recreation spot for picnics and barbecues. This is the place where rock climbers hone their skills. The cliff is also used for abseiling which is the same as rappelling. The place was developed to provide walkways by the river which caters to both hikers, cyclists and provides other amenities like tables, chairs and toilets. Other features include sculptures and a mangrove boardwalk. A native vegetation is added to give it a natural design. The cliffs are lighted up by flood lights to give it a majestic glow. The base of the cliff used to be a naval base.
o Story Bridge
The bridge is a famous landmark and it was constructed in the anticipation of the growing traffic in Brisbane. The cantilever bridge has a span of 282 meters and its length is 777 meters. It has two summits which are about 22 stories high. The bridge is formerly named Jubilee Bridge in honor of King George V. It was later renamed to Story Bridge after John Douglas Story, an influential public servant who tenaciously advocated for the construction of the bridge. But this is not just an ordinary bridge, at least for the intention of the people living and the tourists in Brisbane. The bridge is the setting for their recreational activity known as bridge climbing. They allow climbers to go up to one of the bridge’s summit and traverse the length of the bridge to the next summit. Under the bridge is the Story Bridge Hotel, another famous landmark.
